What is Startups for News?
Startups for News is an international competition that rewards the best startups bringing novel solutions to newsroom challenges. Each year, the Global Editors Network, in partnership with Journalism.co.uk, selects early-stage startups providing innovative products or services to media companies and accelerates their development through exposure, connections, and mentorship.
100 startups applied to the competition, with inventive new tools and services for newsrooms. The startups making up this year’s roster represent 36 countries, the United States and United Kingdom have the largest representation.
The international jury selected 16 startups, to face off in online pitch battles. The 8 finalists were invited to the GEN Summit in Lisbon, where they got to pitch in front of 800 editors-in-chief and media executives.
The winner of this year’s competition is Vigilant. The runner-up is Poool.
